Busan Government Mobilizes Special Task Force for Jimin's Birthday Week Amid Overwhelming Fan Crowds

Jimin, the beloved member of BTS, has become a global sensation, and his birthday celebrations have turned into a major annual event for fans across the world. Known as Jimtober (Jimin + October), his birthday month is filled with fan projects, charity events, and global tributes. However, the festivities reach their peak during the week of his actual birthday on October 13th. In response to the increasing number of visitors, the Busan government has implemented a special task force to manage safety and security during this high-traffic period.

The Growing Jimin Phenomenon in Busan

Busan, Jimin’s hometown, sees an influx of fans every year as they visit notable landmarks like his father’s café, ZMillennial Café, to honor him. In recent years, the number of fans traveling to Busan for this occasion has grown exponentially. Last year, large crowds gathered as early as 10 a.m., filling up the café’s seating within minutes, making it clear that fan attendance shows no signs of slowing down. This year's celebrations, however, coincide with a weekend, leading to expectations of even larger crowds.

With Jimin’s birthday becoming a key event that boosts local tourism, the Busan government sees it as an opportunity to highlight the city while ensuring fan safety remains a top priority. In light of this, the government has assembled a 36-member task force dedicated to managing the overwhelming number of visitors. From October 11th to 14th, this team will ensure the smooth flow of celebrations, monitor crowds, and coordinate with the police for road control around the café.

The Itaewon Tragedy’s Impact on Safety Measures

The tragic Itaewon incident of 2022 has made local governments across South Korea more conscious of crowd control and safety management, especially for large-scale gatherings that lack clear organizers. Given that fan-driven celebrations don’t fall under traditional event structures, Busan authorities are taking proactive steps to prevent accidents by managing the crowd influx, controlling traffic, and cracking down on illegal parking around the café.

An official from the Nam-gu Office explained, “Considering that Jimin’s birthday falls on a weekend this year, we’ve deployed more safety personnel than last year. We will make every effort to manage safety, including crowd control and street parking.” It’s expected that up to 3,000 fans will visit ZMillennial Café during the birthday week, with crowds reaching as many as 400 people at any given time.

Fan and Netizen Reactions to the Safety Task Force

The announcement of the special task force has sparked a wide range of reactions from fans and netizens, both supportive and critical. Many praised the government’s decision, citing the importance of fan safety, while others shared concerns about how crowd management would be handled.

One fan commented, "It's amazing to see the city putting so much effort into ensuring our safety. Jimin deserves all the love, and I’m glad Busan is ready to welcome fans from all over the world." Another expressed relief, saying, "After what happened in Itaewon, it's reassuring to know the government is taking precautions for events like this."

However, some fans worried about the potential for overcrowding. “It’s great that Jimin is getting this recognition, but I hope people are careful. With so many fans gathering, things can get chaotic,” one fan wrote. Others echoed similar concerns: "I hope the task force can actually control the crowd. Last year was intense, and I expect this year to be even crazier."

Despite these concerns, there’s no denying that the love for Jimin is unshakable, and fans are excited to celebrate his birthday in his hometown. As one netizen put it, "Jimtober is special for us ARMYs. It’s heartwarming to see so many people come together for him. The city’s effort to make this safe for everyone is deeply appreciated."

A Celebration of Global Love for Jimin

As October 13th approaches, fans from around the world are set to celebrate not just Jimin’s birthday but the incredible bond they share as a community. Whether through personal visits to Busan or participating in global fan projects, the impact of Jimin’s presence in the world is felt far and wide.

With the Busan government’s commitment to ensuring safety and creating a welcoming environment, this year’s Jimtober promises to be a celebration like no other. Fans can look forward to honoring their favorite artist while knowing that their safety is in capable hands.
