Korean literature has finally achieved the coveted Nobel Prize.

On the evening of October 10 (Korean time), the Swedish Academy in Stockholm announced Korean novelist Han Kang as the recipient of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Academy praised Han Kang for her "poetic prose that confronts historical wounds and exposes the fragility of human life." Her deeply reflective and moving narratives have earned her a place among the most celebrated literary figures in the world.

Han Kang is the first South Korean to win this prestigious award. She gained international recognition with her novel The Vegetarian (2007), which captivated global audiences and cemented her place as a literary force. The Nobel Prize puts her in the company of legendary past laureates such as Bob Dylan, Toni Morrison, and Winston Churchill, underscoring the global reach of her writing.

BTS members RM and V extended their congratulations to South Korean author Han Kang on her Nobel Prize win.

Shortly after Han Kang was named the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature recipient, both RM and V took to social media to express their support. Despite being on military duty, the two shared their admiration for the author. V posted, "Author! I read 'The Boy is Coming' during my military service," while RM reposted V's story on his own Instagram, adding heart and crying emojis.

Han Kang is the first South Korean author to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, an award given annually since 1901 to authors worldwide for their "most outstanding work in an idealistic direction."
