EST N8 Acquires Indonesian Horror Film 'Perewangan' for Global Distribution
U.S.-Thai film sales company EST N8 has acquired the rights to “Perewangan,” an Indonesian horror film set to premiere in its home market theaters later this month. The film follows Maya and Wulan as they face supernatural forces threatening their once-thriving family business, leading them to confront a malevolent figure behind their downfall.
“Perewangan” is written and directed by Awi Suryadi, renowned for his work on Indonesia’s highest-grossing film, KKN Di Desa Penari, and the Danur franchise. The cast includes Davina Karamoy, Restu Triandy, and musician Shanty. It is produced by MD Pictures, part of the MD Entertainment company led by Manoj Punjabi, which has produced over 190 films, including KKN Di Desa Penari.
EST N8’s sales slate at the Busan market also includes the post-production time-loop thriller 30 Minutes, Kongkiat Komesiri’s new thriller Delivery Man, Korean action film Mash Ville, and the horror-thriller Chabak, which topped Netflix Korea. Additionally, the slate features the Nepalese historical drama Gurkha Warrior.
EST N8 was formed through a partnership between EST Studios and N8. EST Studios, founded in 2022 by Jaeson Ma and Eric Tu, focuses on representing Asian content across various genres and aims to finance, produce, and represent 15 projects annually. N8, based in Thailand, was founded by Kris Eiamsakulrat and Rachel Wu. The company partnered with Thai studio GDH559 last year to co-produce Thai thriller and horror films targeting global audiences.
Jaeson Ma, chairman of EST Studios, expressed excitement about the collaboration with MD Entertainment on Perewangan, praising Awi Suryadi’s talent and the film’s potential to make a significant impact in horror cinema.
